Transport Services

Included in the broad range of services offered by WACA are our Transport, which are dedicated to helping people (Individuals or Groups of any ages) who are unable to use Public Transport Services because of personal mobility limitations or the lack of services e.g. in rural areas.

Located in the Upper Parking Level of the Brooks Shopping Centre Car Park, Winchester we have provided these services, with the help of our funders Hampshire County Council and Winchester City Council, for 17 years and pride ourselves in always trying to keep services as flexible as possible in order to meet customer needs. Service levels are of a very high standard and we are pleased to say that we have over 1200 registered customers, lots of whom have been with us for many happy years.

In all we have 2 types of service, each of which has its own specific application, and these are as follows.

•Dial-a-Ride
•Community Transport

Dial-a-Ride (DAR)

This is a door-to-door service, “bookable” up to 8 days in advance, designed to convey individuals (and carers) to a wide range of destinations in Winchester and outlying villages (hospital appointments or day care centres not included). Vehicles used vary in size from 4-5 seat up to 12 seat Minibuses all wheelchair adapted. Drivers are MiDAS Trained and undergo regular refresher courses.

The service is most useful to people with mobility or sensory impairments who find it problematic to use ordinary passenger transport systems, but you do not have to be registered disabled to use Dial-a-Ride.

We operate weekdays and use a registration system, getting to know most of our users very well. This enables us to understand individual needs and to try to provide you with a service that suits you personally.

To find out more about Winchester Dial-a-Ride why not give Jackie or Jane a call on 01962 852602 and we will be happy to help.

Community Transport

As a Community Transport Operator we run 3 minibuses, plus 1 wheelchair adapted “car”, which we hire out to groups, Community Associations, Youth Groups or groups of individuals who wish to visit various locations such as Shopping Centres, Heritage Sites, major events and Leisure Facilities etc.

Hirers provide their own drivers, who must be MiDAS trained, but if this is not possible we will do our best to supply a suitably qualified driver. We are also an accredited MiDAS Training Centre and will happily provide the training necessary for you to acquire your MiDAS certificate.

All our Minibuses are wheelchair adapted thus enabling persons with mobility limitations to partake of the service and to visit the places of interest that appeal to them.

Charges for hiring the vehicles are on a rate per mile basis, which decreases after the first 100 miles. There are no limitations as to where you can go on your trips or outings so in order to find out more give Jackie or Jane a call on 01962 852602 and we will be happy to look after your needs.

Summary

All the WACA transport/mobility services are run by dedicated professionals who are very committed to helping resolve a variety of mobility issues within the community. In addition we benefit from the involvement of volunteers who give of their time because they care and want to make a difference. So why not visit us, or give us a call, to see how we can help you.
