Included in the broad range of services offered by WACA are our Transport, which are dedicated to helping people (Individuals or Groups of any ages) who are unable to use Public Transport Services because of personal mobility limitations or the lack of services e.g. in rural areas.
Located in the Upper Parking Level of the Brooks Shopping Centre Car Park, Winchester we have provided these services, with the help of our funders Hampshire County Council and Winchester City Council, for 17 years and pride ourselves in always trying to keep services as flexible as possible in order to meet customer needs. Service levels are of a very high standard and we are pleased to say that we have over 1200 registered customers, lots of whom have been with us for many happy years.
In all we have 2 types of service, each of which has its own specific application, and these are as follows.
•Dial-a-Ride •Community Transport
Dial-a-Ride (DAR)
This is a door-to-door service, “bookable” up to 8 days in advance, designed to convey individuals (and carers) to a wide range of destinations in Winchester and outlying villages (hospital appointments or day care centres not included). Vehicles used vary in size from 4-5 seat up to 12 seat Minibuses all wheelchair adapted. Drivers are MiDAS Trained and undergo regular refresher courses.
The service is most useful to people with mobility or sensory impairments who find it problematic to use ordinary passenger transport systems, but you do not have to be registered disabled to use Dial-a-Ride.
We operate weekdays and use a registration system, getting to know most of our users very well. This enables us to understand individual needs and to try to provide you with a service that suits you personally.
To find out more about Winchester Dial-a-Ride why not give Jackie or Jane a call on 01962 852602 and we will be happy to help.
