About the event

The summer of 1969: Neil Armstrong walks on the Moon. Woodstock becomes the defining moment of the counterculture movement. And Stevie Wonder, Nina Simone, Mahalia Jackson and BB King play to a combined crowd of more than 300,000 people at The Harlem Cultural Festival.

Two of these events have been acknowledged as significant moments in 20th Century history. The third has been almost forgotten ….. until now.

Award-winning documentary, The Summer of Soul, aims to right what it believes to be a serious cultural wrong. Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson presents a powerful and transporting documentary – part music film, part historical record created around this epic event that celebrated Black history, culture and fashion.
