Discussing current tensions in the UK

12 Sept 2025

We had a very productive and engaging conversation on this complicated topic

The current conversation around the increasing presence of British and English flags being demonstrated around the UK is a complicated one and as such, is one that evokes many mixed feelings particularly amongst ethnic minorities.

We held a conversation on 11 September to discuss this very topic, as well as coping strategies of ways to stay safe and challenge the growth of racism.

We were joined by Watford Mayor Taylor and Liberal Democrat Ian Stotesbury and held a very productive conversation. Following the meeting, another group has been arranged to discuss ways we can 'reclaim the flag' and showcase inclusivity in Watford. This shows a very promising level of engagement in finding a suitable response to the situation, so a very positive and optimistic outcome.
